Weir Minerals - dynamic assessment of an 18,000 kg vibrating screen for ore processing to be tested inside an existing factory building

The assessment was done to assure that the building structures, equipment, and personnel will not be negatively affected by the induced vibration from screen testing. Combining dynamic modelling of the screen on spring buffers, first-order finite element analysis of the test frame, and quasi-static analysis of the slab on grade, we determined the possible source of resonance and recommended dynamic damping setup to prevent the onset of transitional resonance with the building columns.

The test was performed successfully and the methodology used in our assessment caused interest in the Weir Global head office for ore screens in South Africa.
