The pump skid is to bear on a native soil subbase with minimum preparation with no foundation. Weir Minerals has built a structural model of the skid using ANSYS software, which required a supercomputer. The model of the drive train alone had over 125,000 nodes and 70,000 elements. Still, they required help with the soil dynamic modelling and interpretation of the dynamic analysis results.
As an alternative, Pro Dynamic was able to do a comprehensive dynamic and rotor-dynamic analysis using semi-manual method of symbolic dynamic models as shown below. The results were in a good agreement; moreover, the methods we used also allowed parametric studies, optimization, and comprehensive interpretation.
